In an effort to increase attendance at the NCAA Championship Weekend, the organization is considering a broader choice of venues. Currently, the host venues rotate between Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (the location of this past seasons tournament), Gillette Stadium and M&T Bank Stadium in Foxborough, MA (M&T Bank will host the 2014 Championship Weekend).
The NCAA is considering opening their options to non-NFL venues, such as stadiums on college campuses. University of Maryland has expressed interest in hosting from 2015-2018, and the Naval Academy's name has also been thrown into the hat. However, there is hesitance to choose a collegiate campus due to concern that it is a lesser "travel destination."
While NCAA Championship Weekend could be the biggest weekend of the year for the sport of lacrosse, it boils down to one university against another, so why not host it at a college campus? It would be a different atmosphere, but it could be viewed as a positive change!

This weekend’s games closed the regular season for Major
League Lacrosse. Here’s a brief recap:
Ohio Machine @ New York Lizards: 11 – 14
Rochester Rattlers @ Boston Cannons: 23 – 14
Charlotte Hounds @ Chesapeake Bayhawks: 14 – 16
The Machine – Lizards match up this weekend resulted in a
Lizard victory, 14 to 11, to finish in 7th place. Saturday was
designated Hero’s Night to benefit first responders and veterans in the tri
state area. The jerseys specially designed for the occasion were autographed
and auctioned off to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
The win ends New York’s season at 4 – 10 (7th),
and Ohio’s at 2 – 12 (8th).

Rochester secured 5th place with a win in their
final regular season game. The Rattlers took command of the game early, leading
by 5 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw an attempt at a
comeback by the Cannons with three quick goals, but the Rattlers answered with
two goals of their own to retain command.
A high scoring 3rd quarter saw 14 goals and
concluded with a 21-11 lead for the Rattlers. A five goal fourth quarter ended
with a decisive 23-14 win for the Rochester Rattlers.
The Rattlers end their season at 6 – 8 (5th) and
the Cannons at 5 – 9 (6th).
More:
The Chesapeake Bayhawks earned the #2 seed for Championship Weekend
(August 24th and 25th) on Saturday with a 16-14 win over
the Charlotte Hounds. Both teams already earned a spot in the playoffs, but
with the win, the Bayhawks will not have to face the undefeated Outlaws in the
semifinals.
The Bayhawks led 6-3 at end of the first quarter, but the
Hounds stole the lead to end the first half at 10-9. The Hounds used the third
quarter to extend their lead to 14-10, but the Bayhawks controlled the fourth
quarter. Charlotte failed to capitalize on a few opportunities, and the
Bayhawks took the win, 16-14.
The Bayhawks finish the regular season in 2nd place
(9-5) and the Hounds finish in 4th place (7-7) to enter Championship
Weekend.

Collegiate Recruiting Advice
High School Sophomores and Junior aspiring collegiate athletes, it's time to get a move on the recruiting process!
Michael Clarke, writing for Active.com, sums up the process into 8 steps:
1. Make sure the classes you're taking meet the NCAA core course requirements! Talk to your guidance counselors and consult the NCAA compliance website
2. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly the NCAA Clearinghouse). This is not a hard process, but don't forget to do it!
3. Make your lists of schools! It is generally recommended to make three lists: reach, realistic, and safety schools. Talk to your guidance counselors and coaches to discuss your academic and athletic fits and which division you would like your future school to be in.
4. Create a video of 10-15 highlight plays. While swimmers and runners can send in concrete times that speak for themselves, athletes who play a "game" sport cannot simply send in their stats. A (lacrosse) coach's judgement of a players' ability comes from seeing them play and talking to coaches.
5. Research the schools on your lists. Talk to current and formers players if you can to try to obtain a deeper insight into the program.
6. Contact the coaches. Write a short email (a few paragraphs) and send your highlight video. If a coach prefers a phone call, make sure the athlete calls the coach, not the parent!
7. Get in front of the university coaches! Attend the camps of each respective team, if possible, and try to get some face-time with the coaches.
8. The decision! Be sure to visit the schools you are accepted to and meet the team and get a feel for the campus atmosphere. Take all the information you gathered from your research on the schools academic and athletics department, the finances, and the general atmosphere. Also, be sure to look at how the school places their graduates into the corporate world, and more specifically how well athletes from your team are placed.

At the end of June, the M|11 boat led out the 1.5 mile swimmers for the 7th annual Greenwich-Stamford Swim Across America, raising money for gene therapy cancer research. Over $510,000 was raised by this years event! #makingwavestofightcancer.
While working hard on the field and enjoying the sights off of it, we try to give back to our community in any way we can.
